Folk, Soul, Country, Blues n RootsHow long have you been writing and playing music? Was there a song or moment that first inspired you?
I grew up with Mum singing and playing the guitar - she would play till the last hour of the night until the birds started singing along in the morning. Dad and his passion for music set me alight, teaching me to hang on to every precious word. He taught me how to feel music, and what it means to give that feeling away.If you could travel back in time and show one of your musical heroes your stuff, who would it be and why?
Janis Joplin. I felt her soul inside the speakers when I was 16 years old and have never stopped finding something new and powerful in her songs. She was a rich and rare treasure of a person who battled the bruises of life and turned it into a raging soul in music. That's the kind of person I'd like to share songs with. What are your top 5 favourite albums?
This question is pretty much impossible.. So here's the list with the most scratches: Janis Joplin - Anthology The Waifs - Live (Union of Soul) Alanis Morisette - Jagged Little Pill Tracy Champan - Tracy Chapman Simon and GarfunkelWhat is your most memorable gig (playing or watching)?
Very early days.. no money.. Dad's birthday was the next night and I needed gas for the Kombi. 2 people in the whole room. They gave me $20 to get me home. It was so touching, I'll never forget it.Where do you usually draw inspiration from as a writer? Do you have a process? eg music first, lyrics first etc
I have a magical bungalow out the back of our home - the walls are plastered with all the love and treasures I have collected along the way, with all the greats gracing the walls watching over my fumbles and finds. Guitars, Piano, Slide Guitar, Shakers, Harmonicas, Tambourines, Loop Station, screeds of paper - I'm blessed to have a space to be inspired every day, and I never have a process. I just play and play and play....
