// Laura K Clarke

Laura K Clarke has a folk/pop sound that is sweet, soothing and honest. Much to Laura’s delight, her vocal stylings are often likened to those of musicians she respects and admires including Wendy Matthews, Stevie Nicks, Joni Mitchell and Jewel.

Define your genre in five words or less:

Pop/Folk from the heart

How long have you been writing and playing music? Was there a song or moment that first inspired you?

I have been singing ever since I can remember, but I didn't start playing guitar and really writing until around 2004.

What are your favourite venues?

The Corner, The East Brunswick (very sadly ceasing music soon...), The Drunken Poet, The Evelyn, The Wesley Anne, Northcote Social Club, The Espy, The Rainbow... I feel like I have missed loads!

What are your top 5 favourite albums?

It's so cruel that you only let us choose 5, ha! Nevertheless... In no particular order... Continuum - John Mayer Amos Lee - Amos Lee Hits - Joni Mitchell 23 - Tristan Prettyman Come away with me - Norah Jones

Where do you usually draw inspiration from as a writer? Do you have a process? eg music first, lyrics first etc

Most of my inspiration comes from personal experiences and things that are happening in my life, or the lives of those around me. Although I have written different songs in different ways over the years, I generally find that a line or a topic will pop into my head 'in the moment' and a little piece of the song will just write itself. From there, it's a matter of building everything else around that one little piece/concept. I also really love co-writing because I generally write in a completely different way and end up with really different ideas and vibes.
