Melting Pot to Produce Touring Guide

April 1, 2015
Filed Under: Artist Content

Melting Pot are pleased to announce we are putting together a touring guide to help musicians plan their tours and make sure they get the most out of it.  It will feature tips, favourite venues and contacts from many artists as well as the thoughts of bookers, venues and others involved with independent artists touring in Australia.

A number of artists are often asking us about country venues, interstate venues and venues overseas when planning their tours.  As any artist who has booked a tour themselves would know, it’s not an easy thing to do and can be quite stressful on your own.  Our initial aim is to cover country and regional Victoria and all the states of Australia before looking at New Zealand and other overseas destinations.  While it will be incredibly useful for artists and people booking the tours, it will also be some well deserved recognition for a number of venues and bookers that are doing a great job in the running their venues or events.

Given a large portion of the hundreds of artists that have played at Melting Pot have put together tours themselves, it makes sense to gather everyone’s thoughts and suggestions on all the things that would be most useful when booking a tour.  So if you are an artist, a venue booker, a venue owner, a radio announcer or anyone else that has something to add to our guide, then please get in touch!

The sorts of information we’re looking for are things like:

  • names of best venues (and why they are your favourite);
  • what sort of shows the venues are suitable for (band, solo etc);
  • the name and email address of the contact you dealt with;
  • how they pay you (set fee, percentage of the door etc);
  • what nights they run live music / when is suitable to play;
  • how far they book ahead; and
  • anything else you think would be useful.

Obviously most artists are looking for venues where they have the opportunity to build their fan base i.e. somewhere that has a regular respectful crowd that are keen to hear new music.  This is ideally what we’re looking for but sadly there aren’t that many venues that fit this description and so are happy to cast the net wider if you have other suggestions that are special in other ways.

We are under no illusions that this type of information will go out of date relatively quickly and so will need to be revised from time to time.  But it will be an extremely useful resource for everyone and anyone interested in touring through Victoria and Australia.

If you are interested in assisting us, then please send through your thoughts to info [at] meltingpotonline.com.
