Melting Pot’s Top 4: Tuesday, 30th August 2016
Hello and welcome to another installation of ‘Melting Pot’s Top 4’ – where we bring you the 4 absolute must-see gigs in Melbourne this coming week.
We’re scouring deep and hard to find you the cream of the crop that live music in this town has to offer!
LITTLE WISE may be exactly that – small in stature – but her songs are certainly larger than life! No stranger to Melting Pot’s past, Little Wise graduates to her new album, ”ilver Birch’ and presents to us the very first single, ‘Under Water’ at the Yarra Hotel, following an Aussie tour spanning the East Coast.
This final show in her launch tour also doubles as a video launch for the same song, directed by indie filmmaker Caitlin Bryan and receiving high praise by those who have been offered a sneak peek of this independent folk gem.
She’ll be supported by The Weeping Willows in this Sunday afternoon show.
GENRE: Folk, Americana
WHEN: Sunday, 4/9 @ 2:30 PM
WHERE: Yarra Hotel – 295 Johnston St, Abbotsford
JOHN FLANAGAN TRIO find themselves at the Wesley Anne’s intimate band room this coming Saturday at the book end of their ‘Victoria to Victoria’ tour.
Riding on the success of John’s most recent album release, he formed this Trio to tour the songs around following a recording process that took him all the way to Nashville and the studios of the infamous Viktor Krauss.
After an unfortunate line-up change, the support is RUMOURED to be the glorious Anna Cordell. However John is keeping things mysterious, so don’t take our word for it!
GENRE: Country, Folk/Country
WHEN: Saturday 3/9 @ 8 PM
WHERE: Wesley Anne (Band Room) – 250 High St, Northcote
ANDY McGARVIE and his unique blend of blues guitar, rock and roll and sultry charm to Fitzroy’s The Catfish on Wednesday night as part of their weekly event, ‘Muddy’s Blues Roulette’
McGarvie, a music teacher by trade, stuns audiences with his stunning energy and pace through the fretboard through a set laced with blues, boogie and good ol’ toe-tappin’ 50’s dance hall rock ‘n’ roll. A show not to be missed wherever he may be playing – you’ve got the chance for a bit of hump day fun courtesy of us!
GENRE: Blues, Rock ‘n’ Roll
WHEN: Wednesday 31/8
WHERE: The Catfish – 30 Gertrude St, Fitzroy

WHAT ABOUT SOMETHING DIFFERENT…?
Well-known Twitterer and AFL satarist TITUS O’REILY brings a live show to The Yarraville Club this Friday night. For those unsure what to expect, you probably need to expect a lot of footy.
O’Reily and his Podcast co-host, Sergio Paradise, take a light-hearted look back on the season that was, a (not so) forthright view on the impending finals series and probably dig the never-ending knives deeper into the hearts of Richmond fans… who probably need to laugh it all off anyway.
WHEN: Friday, 2/9 @ 7:30 PM
WHERE: The Yarraville Club – 135 Stephen St, Yarraville
COST: From $27
…and that’s a wrap for this week’s gig guide from us here at Melting Pot! Keep your eyes peeled for more news and gig guide updates weekly. We’re looking forward to bringing you next week’s MELTING POT TOP 4.

Author DetailsJosh Forner
Josh Forner is a folk/pop songwriter from Melbourne, Australia and Virginia, USA. Forner was born in Melbourne on July 2 1988, and spent the first 18 months of his life there before moving with his parents to the town of Reston in Virginia, USA. At the age of 3, Forner and his mother returned to Melbourne, where he has stayed ever since.
Josh sings of love, primarily (wow, what a shock right?), but also on his list of ‘hot topics’ are politics, famine, poverty and - of course – landscapes: the folk writer’s favourite.
He’s played with some of Melbourne’s stalwarts including Timothy Cannon, Bridget Pross, Mr Brady, Pro Rata, Gabriel Lynch & Kyle Taylor, and has contributed two of his tracks to non-profit compilation CDs in the past.
Josh’s repertoire continues to grow. He released his first album, a 10-track LP entitled ‘Leading to Nowhere’ at The Workers Club on May 28th, 2013. Forner has since returned to the studio to begin work on a 5-track solo EP to be released by the end of 2013. Following that, he has plans for album number two in 2014.
