Melting Pot’s Top 4: Tuesday, 1st November 2016
Hello and welcome to another installation of ‘Melting Pot’s Top 4’ – where we bring you the 4 absolute must-see gigs in Melbourne this coming week.
We’re scouring deep and hard to find you the cream of the crop that live music in this town has to offer!
Not many artists in Melbourne have mastered the artistry of vocal delivery like that of pop balladeer NATALIE CAROLAN, who brings her debut album, ‘I SLEEP’ to launch this Friday at the Melbourne Recital Centre.
Carolan has diversified her jazz and classical roots into this simply sublime collection of adult contemporary pop which is highlighted by her delicate arrangements and dreamy melodic structure.
Simply, an act not to be missed, and an album that must be on everyone’s ‘must buy’ list this year.
GENRE: Dream Pop, Adult Contemporary

WHERE: Melbourne Recital Centre – Cnr Southbank Bvd & Sturt St, Southbank

BATTS, the crossover project of Melbourne-based UK songwriter, Tanya Batt, folds away from her previous incarnation as a folk-rock songstress and diverges into an electro-pop dynamic. Batt teams up with UK-based producer, Ficci, allowing her to concentrate on a stunning vocal range as witnessed in all the releases to date.
Following the runaway debut success, ‘Morals;’ Batts returns with ‘Lie to Me,’ the latest single which is being launched this week at The Workers Club, alongside ANGIE McMAHON and THE PEEKS.

MATT JOE GOW epitomises the Americana movement within Melbourne and indeed Australia. Having had the pleasure of playing to bumper crowds at places like the Sydney Opera House and Queenscliff Music Festival, Matt Joe Gow’s star continues to rise.
‘Seven Years’ is the new album from this humble Kiwi native who today calls Melbourne home – and much like anything good from New Zealand, we’re more than happy to claim him as one of our own! It’s out through Liberation Records, and the launch party is this Saturday night at the illustrious Spotted Mallard. Support by Alt-country duo, AMARILLO.
GENRE: Americana, Folk
WHEN: Saturday, 5/11 @ 8:30 PM

Don’t miss your opportunity to explore the diverse and magnificent aural splendour on offer throughout the community of Darebin.

Author DetailsJosh Forner
Josh Forner is a folk/pop songwriter from Melbourne, Australia and Virginia, USA. Forner was born in Melbourne on July 2 1988, and spent the first 18 months of his life there before moving with his parents to the town of Reston in Virginia, USA. At the age of 3, Forner and his mother returned to Melbourne, where he has stayed ever since.
Josh sings of love, primarily (wow, what a shock right?), but also on his list of ‘hot topics’ are politics, famine, poverty and - of course – landscapes: the folk writer’s favourite.
He’s played with some of Melbourne’s stalwarts including Timothy Cannon, Bridget Pross, Mr Brady, Pro Rata, Gabriel Lynch & Kyle Taylor, and has contributed two of his tracks to non-profit compilation CDs in the past.
Josh’s repertoire continues to grow. He released his first album, a 10-track LP entitled ‘Leading to Nowhere’ at The Workers Club on May 28th, 2013. Forner has since returned to the studio to begin work on a 5-track solo EP to be released by the end of 2013. Following that, he has plans for album number two in 2014.
