Hello and welcome back to another installation of ‘Melting Pot’s Top 4’ – thanks so much for sticking with us as we continue to bring you the 4 absolute must-see gigs in Melbourne this coming week.
We’re scouring deep and hard to find you the cream of the crop that live music in this town has to offer!
//friday// tempus sun ‘owls’ single launch
The fast-rising folk & roots act TEMPUS SUN deliver their debut single ‘Owls’ this coming Friday at The Toff in Town.
Having started as a songwriting project for band leader Ed Borromeo, Tempus Sun quickly formed into a 6-piece live performance powerhouse, full of emotional connection, closeness and intense mood shifts.
They took out the ‘Listen Up Australia’ competition in 2016 with this song and also the Bank of Melbourne’s ‘Melbourne Music Bank’ competition in just a matter of months. Their debut EP, which portrays a very ‘Of Monsters and Men‘ sound, is set for release in August and is one of the most highly-anticipated records of 2017.
They’ll be supported by dulcet, indie-folksters Eaglemont and the brilliantly poignant Angie McMahon.
GENRE: Indie-Folk; Roots

The unmistakable voice of Teeth & Tongue, JESS CORNELIUS, has dominated the front room at The Tote this month and is unleashing the last installment of her June residency tonight!
Having ushered through a stunning array of support artists, tonight’s finale is no exception with Jess Ribiero and Nina Renee taking to the stage prior to Jess’ headline set.
Known for a powerful rock/folk/electronica crossover style, Cornelius offers a stripped back, acoustic setting to some of her older Teeth & Tongue works alongside some new stuff written specifically with the lighter sound in mind.
All 3 weeks of this residency have been packed houses so we recommend that you get down to The Tote nice and early for this one!

They’re launching ‘End of Summer‘ (how appropriate) this Saturday night at The Grace Darling Hotel and we just couldn’t look past the incredibly talented pop songwriting prowess that has been pumping out tunes for so long, and continues to do so, uninhibited and unchanged!
The 11-track offering has already been released overseas, where The Wellingtons have been touring extensively, and given their very loyal cult following here in Melbourne, we recommend that you head down to the Grace nice and early for this one!
The Golden Rail launch their single on the same night and opening will be Max Quinn.

Author DetailsJosh Forner
Josh Forner is a folk/pop songwriter from Melbourne, Australia and Virginia, USA. Forner was born in Melbourne on July 2 1988, and spent the first 18 months of his life there before moving with his parents to the town of Reston in Virginia, USA. At the age of 3, Forner and his mother returned to Melbourne, where he has stayed ever since.
Josh sings of love, primarily (wow, what a shock right?), but also on his list of ‘hot topics’ are politics, famine, poverty and - of course – landscapes: the folk writer’s favourite.
He’s played with some of Melbourne’s stalwarts including Timothy Cannon, Bridget Pross, Mr Brady, Pro Rata, Gabriel Lynch & Kyle Taylor, and has contributed two of his tracks to non-profit compilation CDs in the past.
Josh’s repertoire continues to grow. He released his first album, a 10-track LP entitled ‘Leading to Nowhere’ at The Workers Club on May 28th, 2013. Forner has since returned to the studio to begin work on a 5-track solo EP to be released by the end of 2013. Following that, he has plans for album number two in 2014.
