Va Va Boombah Fat Burlesque
Oversize fans, high heels and women taking off their clothes. No wonder Burlesque has never gone away. Performer Dita von Teese recently visited, she boasts a 56 centimetre waist. But a group of plus-size Melbourne women are bucking this skinny trend.
Va Va Boombah Fat Burlesque is Australia’s “first burlesque night featuring fat performers.” The group formed to create a space for fat performers of burlesque, cabaret, circus, spoken word and reclaim forms of sexual expression.
The group will hold a fundraiser on the 9th of May – featuring performances by Cupcake Kitten and Harlotte Bronte. All proceeds will go toward their first burlesque show. They guarantee that “nobody shakes it quite like a semi-naked fatty.”
Va Va Boombah will hold a fundraiser on the 9th of May, 7.00pm at Bar Nothing. Va Va Boombah’s first show will take place on the 1st of June.
